120 years of Viennese charm

The history of our establishment — leading the way, then and now

When the Kaiserhof was erected on the grounds of Vienna’s glacis in 1896, it was considered one of the most state-of-the-art hotels of its time. Novelties such as an Elevator, central heating, electricity and running water in all rooms were regarded as luxurious sensations at the time. Archduchess Marie Thèrese, a close friend of the constructor, lobbied her brother-in-law Emperor Franz Joseph I to grant permission to name the hotel “KAISERHOF” (Imperial Court). In the year 1913, the Kaiserhof was recommended by “Baedeker Austria-Hungary”, one of the first travel guides.
